About Us
Belknap House is the only family-centered shelter in Belknap County, providing safe shelter to children alongside educational programming and customized case management for parents. We operate as a 24/7 shelter, with staff available around the clock to ensure that families' needs are met and that they adhere to the rules necessary for their success.
Our History
Founded in 2014 as a cold-weather shelter, Belknap House has since transformed into a full-time family shelter, a testament to our unwavering commitment to our mission. We strive to equip parents with the skills and support they need to break free from the cycle of homelessness and create sustainable habits for a better life.
Keeping Families Together
Our facilities include two locations that cater to different stages of our residents' journeys. Our shelter, located in Laconia, features a 6-bedroom home that can provide shelter to up to 19 individuals, each family having its own room. Residents also have access to a shared living room, kitchen, pantry, children's playroom, outdoor space with a playground, and a beloved book nook.
Belknap House Expansion
In December 2023, we expanded our reach with the purchase of a duplex in Laconia. This property serves as the next step on the path to independence. Here, residents have the freedom to practice the skills they've learned at Belknap House in a real-world setting.
