Belknap House II
In April 2023, the Belknap House Board revamped its three-year strategic plan, prioritizing an expansion of support capacity. Goals were set high, aiming to develop an expansion plan, increase staff, and secure 2-4 new housing units. By June 2023, a draft plan was crafted and shared with potential donors.
This vision became a reality on January 5, 2024, when Belknap House acquired a 3,300 sq/ft duplex on Pine Street in Laconia, known as Belknap House II (BHII). This new facility, comprised of two 3-bedroom units, was made possible by a generous $300,000 donation from St. James Episcopal Church, received in November 2023 from the estate of Richard Coggon II, a beloved former Laconia High School teacher.
A Path Toward Independence
A pressing challenge for Belknap House is the shortage of rental and transitional housing in the Lakes Region. Many families thrive in our programs but struggle to find housing upon completion. BHII addresses this, offering more space and flexibility, along with supportive services and a requirement for families to contribute up to 30% of their income toward expenses. The maximum stay is 18 months, with most families expected to transition within a year.
Welcome to BHII!
We are thrilled to announce that our first family has taken up residence at Belknap House II! Betty graduated to our new property with her grandson and was able to reunite with her granddaughter at the beginning of April. We want to express our gratitude for the incredible community effort that made her move possible!
During her 14 months at Belknap House, Betty worked tirelessly to bring her family together and make this transition a reality—and she has done so with grace and warmth. Anyone who has met Betty knows that she embodies care and represents what Belknap House stands for.
The community's support was instrumental in this endeavor. We express our gratitude to St. James Episcopal Church, Baron’s Major Brands, Ippolito’s Furniture, The Home Beautiful, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Gilford Community Church, and the Thrift Clothes Closet in Franklin for their generosity. Their contributions ensured that our families have the resources they need to progress towards independence.
